WhatsApp Business API pricing in India (2026): per-message fees explained
Meta now charges for each template message, not per conversation. The exact INR rates, how GST applies, and a worked example so you can budget with confidence.
If you're comparing WhatsApp Business API providers, you'll see two kinds of cost: Meta's message fees and the provider's platform fee. Understanding both is the only way to compare quotes fairly.
Meta now charges per message
In 2025 Meta moved from charging per 24-hour conversation to charging for each template message delivered. Many older pricing guides still describe the conversation model, so check the date on anything you read.
India rates for 2026
Meta raised India's marketing rate by about 10% from 1 January 2026, from ₹0.7846 to ₹0.8631. Utility and authentication stayed the same. India also moved to INR billing from the same date.

Volume discounts
Utility and authentication messages get cheaper as your monthly volume rises, through tiered discounts Meta applies automatically. Marketing messages have no volume discount, so the way to control marketing cost is to send to better-targeted segments.
A worked example
A retailer sends, in one month:
- 10,000 festive offer messages (marketing): 10,000 × ₹0.8631 = ₹8,631
- 6,000 order and delivery updates (utility): 6,000 × ₹0.115 = ₹690
- 2,000 OTPs (authentication): 2,000 × ₹0.115 = ₹230
Meta fees: ₹9,551, plus 18% GST = about ₹11,270. Add the platform fee: on MessageGrid's Starter plan that's ₹2,300 + GST a month, with no extra markup on the Meta fees.
What to ask any provider
- Do you add a markup on Meta's fees? Some providers add 10–30% per message. MessageGrid adds zero.
- Is there a setup fee? Ask whether verification and template help are included.
- Are there usage caps? MessageGrid plans have no restriction on usage.
- What happens to unused balance if I leave? MessageGrid refunds unused prepaid balance on account closure.
